Topics That Sparked the Discussion

Our discussion explored the commercial side of HVAC design, focusing on the costing of DX, VRF, and chilled water systems.
Rather than comparing technical features alone, we examined the approximate cost per ton of each system and how factors such as project type, application, and system selection influence overall project cost.
The conversation connected engineering decisions with their financial impact, offering practical insights that every HVAC designer should understand.
Looking Beyond Calculations
Engineering is about more than calculations and compliant designs it is also about making informed decisions that create value.
This discussion shifted the focus from "Can this system work?" to "Is this the right system for the project?"
We explored how design choices influence:
- Project cost and budget planning
- System selection based on project requirements
- Commercial feasibility alongside technical performance
- The role of an engineer in balancing engineering excellence with business awareness
It was a reminder that great HVAC designers don't just design efficient systems they understand the commercial impact behind every decision.
What Made This Meetup Special
This wasn't a one-way discussion everyone had a voice.
Each engineer shared real project experiences, practical challenges, and lessons learned from the field. The exchange of diverse perspectives turned the conversation into a collaborative learning experience, making every insight practical, relevant, and easy to apply.

Moments from the Meetup

The Start of Something Bigger
What started as a simple coffee shop conversation between four engineers became the foundation of something much bigger.
There were no presentations, no stage, and no formal agenda just a shared passion for learning and helping one another grow.
Looking back, this first meetup marked the beginning of a community built on knowledge sharing, meaningful conversations, and professional growth. It was the first chapter of what would become The MEP Club.
